Greg Dyke, director general of the BBC, has announced plans to give the public full access to all the corporation’s programme archives.  More at BBC News.

Will be very cool if this really happens.

Old TV Stuff

If you are a sad git like me you may have seen tv ident galleries before but the TV ARK site has LOADS of Real Media clips of idents, continuity announcements, news intros, series intros, ads, you name it, stacks of stuff from the 70′s & 80′s and good bit of earlier stuff too. The Protect & Survive public info film is as mad & scary as the booklet ever was. In fact all the 70s/80s public information films are pretty mad.

New Dr Who movie?

There was mention in todays Sunday Times of the possibility of a new Dr Who movie: Dyke calls up Daleks to take on Hollywood – let’s hope it’s better than the last one!
yeah, yeah, I know… I’ll believe it when I see it too…

Tivo and Indigo2

Dixons & Currys had TiVo PVR boxes on sale last week for £99 including delivery which was too good a deal to miss. It took six days before they despatched it and another three days to arrive (Securicor are absolutely useless) but finally by Thursday evening I had it. I’m really impressed and even though I was aware of all its features before I had never realised quite how well it all actually comes together, well worth the normal asking price of £229 let alone £99. Best bit of kit I’ve bought in ages. Tivo Web looks like it would be very handy too.

Also added an SGI Indigo2 (R10000 Solid Impact) to the computer collection. It’s got Irix 6.2 on it at the moment but I’ve not really had a chance to play around with it much yet due to watching too much tivo!

Spam fighting

Since ORBS is no more and MAPS have starting charging for access (they do give free access to home users but restrict it to one IP address) I have seen a lot more spam in my inbox. A few replacements for Orbs have surfaced but nothing that I could use with any confidence yet. As a result I have had to pay more attention to my procmail setup again recently, with some good results.

It’s nice to see some sane reactions to the Brass Eye Special at last. We just need Cook’d And Bomb’d back now and I’ll be happy.

In other news, I have broken my previous uptime record, my main Linux machine has now been running continuously for 239 days.

Blake’s 7 TV Movie

Finally some more info on the Blake’s 7 TV Movie is surfacing, check out the newsletter here.

Vision Recumbents have built a bicycle with a jet engine on the back, check the link out for video clips of it in action [more info] and if that’s not strange enough for you, how about a wooden 3 wheeler with Citroen 2CV mechanicals [more pics].

Elsewhere, IBM is showing off version 2 of its Linux watch, now with a 640×480 display, very groovy, got to get that battery life up though chaps.
