Xbox Linux Screenshots

I’ve added some screenshots of Ed’s Xbox Debian Linux 0.1.0 with KDE3 installed to the Xbox Linux page. It makes a reasonably fast PC with the only drawback being the low resolution available on televisions, connect a monitor up to it and it could be used as a desktop PC with no problems. I’m not sure what I’ll do with it yet if anything, I would use it to play DivX files etc but the Xbox Media Player already does such a good job of that. It’s an intersting curiosity if nothing else I suppose.

Sun JavaStation

I picked up a Sun JavaStation-1 Network Computer (aka Mr Coffee) on Ebay earlier this week and have set it up as an X Terminal, running Linux (or course!), here’s the write up and a step by step guide to the process.
I also managed to get some more of my ideas for a car PC formulated into something a bit more useful so it got a page of its own too.

L’espion digital camera

I bought myself a Digital Dream Co L’espion digital camera earlier this week. It’s a tiny little thing, about the size of a matchbox and only costs £40 but takes surprisingly good pictures. I have put some info about using it with Linux here.

Spam fighting

Since ORBS is no more and MAPS have starting charging for access (they do give free access to home users but restrict it to one IP address) I have seen a lot more spam in my inbox. A few replacements for Orbs have surfaced but nothing that I could use with any confidence yet. As a result I have had to pay more attention to my procmail setup again recently, with some good results.

It’s nice to see some sane reactions to the Brass Eye Special at last. We just need Cook’d And Bomb’d back now and I’ll be happy.

In other news, I have broken my previous uptime record, my main Linux machine has now been running continuously for 239 days.

HP PARISC

Added a HP 715/100 XC PARISC machine to the collection. I’m going to put PARISC Linux on this for now, however if anyone could supply a HP-UX disc set or a copy of, please email me.
