New Hitch Hiker’s radio series planned

There will be a new Hitch Hiker’s radio series out in 2004 – yes you read right! According to the BBC, the Tertiary Phase of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy will be aired on Radio 4 next year. First off is a 6 parter of Life, the Universe and Everything due in spring 2004 followed by an 8 part adaptation of So Long and Thanks for All the Fish and Mostly Harmless.

Hopefully it comes out OK without the oversight of Douglas Adams or Peter Jones as the voice of The Book, they’ve got a lot to live up to. Douglas himself will be playing the part of Agrajag… thanks to some recorded book readings.

Survivors Box Set

I Bought myself the new DVD box set of Survivors series 1 last week. It is the first thirteen episodes on four DVDs with several extras and a 36 page booklet. It’s been well done so I hope that it is successful so that we get to see Series 2 and 3 on DVD as well. If you’re not familliar with Survivors it was a BBC TV disaster series from 1975, created by Terry Nation it portrayed a world decimated by an unknown virus which killed off 99% of the worlds population. More information on Survivors here and here.

Old TV Stuff

If you are a sad git like me you may have seen tv ident galleries before but the TV ARK site has LOADS of Real Media clips of idents, continuity announcements, news intros, series intros, ads, you name it, stacks of stuff from the 70′s & 80′s and good bit of earlier stuff too. The Protect & Survive public info film is as mad & scary as the booklet ever was. In fact all the 70s/80s public information films are pretty mad.

Hitchhikers DVD

The BBC are due to release The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy on DVD on the 28th January. It includes a good set of extras listed here. I’ve ordered mine! I can finally retire my ageing ‘taped off the telly in the 80′s’ VHS copy.

Death Comes to Time a success

It looks like the pilot of the Doctor Who audio adventure, Death Comes to Time, was a success. The BBC has commissioned further episodes which will be posted weekly starting sometime in 2002. Looks like it will still only be available as real audio though, can’t we have mp3 too please?
