Here we go again…

Well it’s time to revive the blog again it seems and yes, I’m using a prepackaged theme this time, the brilliant Atahualpa Theme by BytesForAll. I’m doing so much PHP for work these days that I don’t always want to be fiddling with my own stuff so I figured something easier to maintain was in order and this seems to be it. Hopefully moving it to the root of this domain will force me to update more often. All the old posts going back to the start of 2000 are there for what it’s worth – I do have the even older stuff but it’s not in a fit state to import and is pretty much valueless at this point. The binary image in the header is taken from a picture by flaivoloka and was found on the excellent free stock images site sxc.hu.

I still need to do something with my old zorg.org site which hasn’t been touched in years now. Surprisingly some of the stuff on there is still very popular though so I need to decide what is worth keeping and what I’m going to do with it.

New PC

I’ve replaced my main desktop machine, it’s about time too!

Specs are: AMD Phenom 9550 (2.2Ghz Quad core), Asus M3A mobo, 2Gb Corsair PC2-6400 RAM, 500Gb SATAII HD, Nvidia 8600GT dual DVI Gfx, 700W PSU and a nice case + some fans that weren’t 50p each (learnt that lesson the hard way!)

Should have 3 x 22″ widescreen monitors here on Friday. Two for this new PC and one connected to another, linked with Synergy. Play time :D

This is what passes for work at our place sometimes!
It’s a 500cc 4 speed auto with selectable 4 wheel drive and road legal (just needs registering).

Cool!

Just been over to Homebase and bought myself an air conditioner for home.  £149 for a 9000 BTU unit (1000 more than the one I have in my office), not bad at all.

Had enough of hot and looks like there’s gonna be quite a bit of it!!

New PC

I replaced my main workstation yesterday with an AthlonXP PR2600+ based machine as my Athlon 1.4GHz box has been playing up again, random lock ups this time. Looks like it’s the motherboard again and as this machine has given me nothing but trouble I’ve ditched the lot bar the hard disk and CD writer. I’ll sort the good from the bad at a later date for spares. My monitor also started with wavy lines a month or so back so I’ve got a new monitor too (and a lot of tidying up to do tonight – there’s empty boxes, packing, pizza boxes and beer cans strewn everywhere!).
I’ve had some very interesting emails lately, not all of which I have replied to yet, if you are one of those don’t worry I am getting round to them all eventually.

Email problems

My email is working again now after being down for the past 24 hours due to a problem at my hosting company. I’ll have to look into introducing some redundancy there.

Don’t forget to listen to the new Doctor Who adventure and then vote for the series to continue.

Few site updates

I keep updating things and forgetting to add something here. Since the last entry in June I have updated the computer collection to add an SGI Indy I recently purchased, added to both the Linux and radio pages and I found a picture of a chevette that is a dead ringer for the one I used to own.

Whilst sorting through some of the cruft in my home directory recently I came across a copy of an interview that LinuxUK had with Uber Linux Hacker Alan Cox that hasn’t been available since their site revamp, so here it is.
There have been loads of other minor updates but I can’t remember them all.

WTF? cooking baked beans & other stuff in a toaster? there is something about this that appeals to me! another one of the strangest things that I have found on the net recently has got to be a photo of the street where my house is. How odd.

Email again!

Think I spoke too soon last month about an end to my email problems! More trouble again over the last couple of weeks, corrupted mail drops this time although it seems to be working again for the moment. I’d be better sticking it on the end of my ADSL line at this rate!!

Also on the bad news front, it doesn’t look like the Beeb Ogg streams will be back anytime soon so we are stuck with Real Audio for now. Boo!
