Hi,
Can I copy the the Froyo ROM into the SD card and install it without having a rooted device knowing that I can’t root my device because it stops at the splash screen for 1 sec then black screen (for 4secs) and it does it again (loop)so the only place I can access is the HBOOT (notice when i plug it into PC usb port it recognizes (USB PLUG) next to HBOOT.
any one can help…do I have a dead device here???

@Shahid, Sorry, can’t help with that one I’m afraid, I bought mine unlocked so have never had to do that. I could be wrong but I think you need to get a code to do it on the Desire.

I don’t know but they do have an IRC channel, see “Where can I get support?” towards the bottom of this page. It is already a known issue with HBOOT 1.06 from what have I seen though.

Hi Robert, The issue seems to be that Unrevoked isn't working with HBOOT 1.06 yet. Apparently z4root can give a temporary root but there isn't a solution for a permanent root yet.

Rec’d Desire the other day, came rooted with Unrevoked and factory wipe of Alltel ROM Android v2.1.

Was doing a lot of reading, wanting to upgrade to 2.2, but wasn’t sure of wanting to do it myself…

So, not in desperation, but for stability sake, took phone to Alltel, and they gladly upgraded to Android 2.2 for me with a smile. They did not comment, or say anything regarding that the unit was rooted, or anything, because it had a branded Alltel ROM in place.

Well, as is, when they upgraded for me, I believe I lost root.

Wanting to know if I can somehow now root with Alltel ROM Android 2.2 in place.

Here are the specifics of my unit as of now…

v2.2
Baseband 2.15.00.02.17
Kernel 2.6.32.21-g3b4b13c
Build 2.12.671.1
Software # 2.12.671.1

Vol – / Power on stats:

BRAVOC DVT2 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT 1.06.0000
MICROP-051e
RADIO 2.15.00.02.17

Is this phone rootable?
I was told by another source that since the store did the upgrade, and my boot screen says DVT, and not PVT, that I cannot root, and I will have to wait until an upgrade comes from Unrevoked, where they have mastered the rooting for v2.2

If I am currently able to root, given the specifics above, can you point me in the right direction, or provide a guide.
