Jim Murray of The Whisky Bible fame was on Chris Evans’ show on Radio 2 today with a tasting of his top 3 ever whiskys.
I won’t spoil it by mentioning what they are but I’ve made an mp3 file with all the unrelated music/travel stuff edited out which you can download here: Jim Murray – Chris Evans – 01-12-09.mp3 It is 7.8 MB file with a runtime of 17 mins 7 secs.
Update 2/12/09: If you just want to know what they were see comments below!

What were they?
first one was sezarac american rye whisky second an indian one and third was ardbeg supernova
OK for those that just want the answer (a lot looking at the search strings bringing people here today), Jim Murray’s top 3 whiskys as mentioned the Chris Evans show on Radio 2 were:
1. Sazerac Rye 18
2. Ardbeg Supernova
3. Amrut Fusion
He tasted them out of order 1, 3, 2 as the Ardbeg is a bit of a peat monster and would have tainted any tasting of the Amrut straight afterwards.
Would love to try them all but budget doesn’t extend to the Sazerac or Supernova. Anywhere the Amrut can be found in the UK?
You and me both, I just can’t justify best part of £100 per bottle. I’d love to try the supernova, Ardbeg is my second favourite distillery (first being Laphroaig).
Online seems to be the best bet for the Amrut, eg:

I think I’ll be giving that one a try myself.
Hi, if anyone’s interested I’ve just found some of the Amrut Fusion at http://www.wineandwhisky.co.uk. I’ve placed my order

Hi
Jim was also on Radio 4 this morning talking about the English Whisky company. Not sure the product (at this time) is any challenge to the afore mentioned whiskys or even popular scotch single malts, however may be something to keep your eye on for the future as its oldest whisky is only 3 years old!

Oh yes, I heard Ken Bruce mention it very briefly on Radio 2 this morning but I was in the car and promptly forgot all about it!
Found an article on it here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8405783.stm
Sounds like good stuff if the video there is anything to go by. Amazing that whisky hasn’t been made in England in over a century really. Look forward to trying it.
Bit of a long shot, but do we know each other from the distant past Stu?
Hi Nathan – not such a long shot…as we do know each other from our distant past – I have previously commented on your Flickr pages (Nicky’s pups) – as One Red Eye.
Regarding the English Whisky, Jim commented he was going to buy two bottles of the latest ‘chapter’, one to drink and one to save as it will increase in value with time (although I tend to buy whisky for one purpose and one purpose only and it isn’t for its long term value!!).
Ah, it is you, long time no see, must be 15 years plus! Had missed your flickr comment at the time but yes, good times indeed.
I’m with you anyway, I like to have a bit of a collection on the go but it’s definitely for drinking & enjoying not for keeping.
